Follow these simple steps to split your images using our free online tool.
Step 1: Upload Your Image
Click the upload area or drag and drop your image file. Supported formats include JPG, PNG, WebP, and other common image formats. Your image will appear in the canvas area.
Step 2: Choose Your Split Method
Select between two methods:
- Freeform: Draw custom rectangles on your image to select specific regions
- Equal Split: Split your image into equal-sized pieces (vertical, horizontal, or grid)
Freeform Selection Method
- Click and drag on the canvas to draw a selection rectangle
- Hold Shift while dragging to create a perfect square
- Click on a selection to activate it (you'll see resize handles)
- Drag the corners or edges to resize your selection
- Click and drag the selection to move it
- Use the + button to duplicate a selection
- Use the × button or press Delete to remove a selection
- Press D to duplicate the last selection
Equal Split Method
- Select the "Equal Split" tab
- Choose your split direction: Vertical, Horizontal, or Grid
- Enter the number of rows and columns (for grid) or pieces (for vertical/horizontal)
- Click "Create Grid" to generate equal-sized selections
Step 3: Split Your Image
Once you've created your selections, click the "Split Image" button. The tool will process each selection and display the split images in the output panel on the right.
Step 4: Customize Output Names
Click on any output image name to edit it. This will be the filename when you download the images.
Step 5: Choose Export Format
Select your preferred export format from the dropdown:
- PNG: Best for images with transparency or high quality
- JPG: Smaller file size, good for photos
- WebP: Modern format with excellent compression
Step 6: Download Your Images
Click "Download ZIP" to download all split images as a ZIP file, or click the download button on individual images to save them one at a time.
Tips & Tricks
- Use the zoom controls in your browser for precise selection placement
- Hold Shift while dragging to maintain aspect ratio
- You can create multiple selections and split them all at once
- All processing happens in your browser - your images never leave your device
- Works best with modern browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge)
